BCMUI Community Safety & Reporting Policy

(Last updated: September 22, 2026)

BCMUI is committed to supporting safe, respectful, and professional relationships among musicians, churches, employers, ministries, and community members.

This policy explains how members may report concerns, how BCMUI reviews reports, and how BCMUI protects the privacy and fairness of everyone involved.

1. Who May Submit a Report
Reports may be submitted only by verified BCMUI members. A member must provide accurate account information and must not submit reports on behalf of another person without permission.

2. What May Be Reported
Reports may concern alleged conduct such as:

Failure to pay agreed compensation
Misuse of a musician’s services or money
Breach of a written agreement
Threatening, abusive, harassing, or discriminatory conduct
Serious violations of professional expectations
Reports should concern specific events and should include dates, locations, organizations, and other relevant details when available.

3. Evidence and Honest Reporting
Members should provide supporting information whenever possible, including:

  • Contracts or written agreements
  • Invoices or payment records
  • Messages or emails
  • Public documents
  • Names of witnesses

Reports must be submitted honestly and in good faith. Members must not knowingly submit false information, exaggerate claims, impersonate another person, threaten anyone, or use the reporting system to harass or retaliate.

4. Private Review Before Publication
A submitted report is private while BCMUI reviews it. Submission does not guarantee that a report will be published.

BCMUI may request additional information, contact relevant parties, delay publication, publish only a limited summary, or decline to publish the report.

5. Opportunity to respond
When practical, BCMUI may notify the reported person or organization and provide a reasonable opportunity to respond before any report is published.

A response does not automatically remove a report, and the absence of a response does not automatically confirm the report.

6. Neutral Language
BCMUI will try to describe reported conduct using specific, neutral wording. Published information should distinguish between:

  • What the reporting member claims
  • What documents appear to show
  • What the reported party says
  • What BCMUI has independently verified

BCMUI will not publish unnecessary insults, personal attacks, threats, or conclusions that a person is guilty of a crime.

7. Privacy
BCMUI may remove or withhold private information, including:

  • Home addresses
  • Private telephone numbers
  • Personal email addresses
  • Medical information
  • Financial account information
  • Information about children
  • Unrelated personal details

Members should not upload documents containing unnecessary private information.

8. Report Status
A report may receive one of these statuses:

  • Under Review
  • Additional Information Requested
  • Response Requested
  • Published
  • Resolved
  • Not Published
  • Removed or Corrected

A status does not necessarily represent a legal finding or determination of guilt.

9. Corrections and Appeals
A reporting member or reported party may request a correction, clarification, or additional review by providing relevant information.

BCMUI may correct inaccurate information, update a report when circumstances change, or remove material that no longer meets this policy.

10. Prohibited Use
The reporting system may not be used for:

  • False or knowingly misleading reports
  • Personal revenge or retaliation
  • Extortion or threats
  • Political or religious harassment
  • Publishing private information
  • Encouraging anyone to confront, threaten, or harm another person
  • Repeatedly targeting the same person without new evidence

Violations may result in removal of content, suspension of membership, or termination of access.

11. Limitations
BCMUI is not a court, law-enforcement agency, mediator, or legal representative. Information submitted by members may be incomplete or disputed. Members should obtain independent legal advice when necessary.

12. Contact and review
Questions, correction requests, and responses concerning a report should be submitted through the official BCMUI reporting or contact process.

BCMUI may update this policy as the reporting system develops. The current version will be posted on this page.

By submitting a report, I confirm that I have read this policy and that the information I provide is accurate to the best of my knowledge.
